Jennifer Lopez Seals American Idol Deal – For $12 Million

16 Sep

A month after the singer-actress’s initial deal with American Idol fell apart — thanks, in part, to demands that had gotten “out of hand,” according to a source — Lopez will after all be joining the judging panel for the show’s upcoming 10th season, sources tell PEOPLE.

Lopez’s $12 million contract, which was first reported by Deadline.com, comes two weeks after DioGuardi confirmed she was leaving the show, following in the footsteps of both Simon Cowell and new judge Ellen DeGeneres.

According to the report, Lopez was hoping for movie and TV development deals to accompany and even larger Idol salary as well as input about her new co-judges, but Fox made no commitments and she settled for a cool $12 million.

“She’s very excited,” a source close to Lopez says of the final deal.

Fox has no comment and a rep for Lopez did not return calls for comment.

No official word on who may be Lopez’s fellow judges but Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler said he will “probably” be a judge. Shania Twain, Harry Connick Jr., Elton John and Chris Isaak had also been rumored as possibilities

How to Party Like a Gossip Girl In NYC

15 Sep

Just as New York City was often called the fifth lady in the ‘Sex and the City’ franchise, Gotham has become the third wheel in the ‘Gossip Girl’ threesome.

The city that never sleeps has always been prominently featured in the debaucheries of the show’s young cast and this season won’t be any different. Past seasons have had the cast at the Empire Hotel, STK, The Campbell Apartment, Marquee and the Box.

But now that the kiddies are older and wiser — and actually 21! — they need to be frequenting a new generation of hot spots. Here are our recommendations for the newest hot spots for Blair, Serena, Nate and Chuck to be seen at this season.

The Darby — Opening later this month, nightlife staples Scott Sartiano and Richie Akiva of Butter and 1Oak, are bringing a more mature aesthetic to NYC nightlife. Just like the ‘Gossip Girl’ cast, Richie and Scott are growing up and they wanted to open a venue that reflected that. The new space is bringing back the glitz and glamour of the 1950s supper club with nightly performances by a house band that will be enjoyed over a gourmet meal. We’re picturing Blair and Serena in pillbox hats and Chuck in a cravat (not that that would be anything out of the ordinary).

When asked for comment, his spokeswoman said he had discontinued his account with the micro-blogging service because his Battle Studies Tour is “now at a close and a return to the studio planned.” Mayer plans to stay in contact with his fans through his blog.

idol Justin Bieber has teased his Twitter “girlfriend” Kim Kardashian and his army of female fans by tweeting a photo of himself hugging US chat show host Chelsea Handler.

The teenage singer posted a cheeky message to Kardashian along with the snap of Handler with her arm around him, saying: “@kimkardashian watch your Armenian back, girl.”

Bieber and Kardashian have repeatedly joked about a romance and have posted tongue-in-cheek pictures of themselves posing together on Twitter.

But the joke backfired on the reality TV star, who claimed Bieber fans were so upset by their antics they sent her death threats.

However, it did not stop her from posing for a sexy photo-shoot with the 16-year-old earlier this year.

Now it looks like she has a Twitter rival for Bieber’s affections in the shape of the sharp-tongued Chelsea Lately star.

T.I.'s arrest: Will he go back to prison?

4 Sep

As EW reported yesterday, rapper T.I. (né Clifford Harris Jr.) and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested Wednesday night in Hollywood after deputies smelled marijuana coming from the couple’s car. (The couple was released early on Thursday after they each posted $10,000 bail.) A new beat in the story pegs the arrest to suspicion of possessing methamphetamines. Whether it’s marijuana or methamphetamines, the big question is: Will this land T.I. — just six months into a three-year probation sentence — back in prison? The rapper was just released from an Arkansas federal prison last December after serving seven months on a 2008 conviction on federal weapons charges. UPDATE: The L.A. Sheriff’s Office confirms with EW that T.I. and his wife were pulled over after making an illegal U-turn, and that police who had stopped the rapper smelled pot in his car. The Sheriff’s Office also confirms that the controlled substance discovered in the vehicle was Ecstasy.

While on probation, T.I., currently en route back to Atlanta,  is prohibited from committing any crimes or possessing any controlled substances, and he’s required to submit to drug tests and go through drug and alcohol treatment. So an arrest on drug possession while on probation certainly could lead to more time behind bars. Will that be the case here? Only time will tell, as the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta says T.I.’s case is currently under review. “The probation office is in the process of determining what happened and will make a recommendation regarding Mr. Harris when they have all the facts,” U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates says. Once the probation office has thoroughly reviewed the details and context of the case, it will decide whether to bring it back to the U.S. Attorney’s office, which originally prosecuted the rapper on the federal gun charges.

“We haven’t gotten anything from the probation office yet,” a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney told EW this morning. “There’s no automatic formula for such cases.”

The arraignment for the new charges in California won’t likely be for another two months.

Kara DioGuardi leaves 'American Idol'

4 Sep

Songwriter Kara DioGuardi is stepping down from her role as a judge on “American Idol” after two seasons on the popular Fox talent contest, the network said in a statement Friday evening.

“I felt like I won the lottery when I joined ‘American Idol’ two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave Idol,” DioGuardi was quoted as saying in the statement. “I am very proud to have been associated with American Idol – it has truly been an amazing experience.”

The network did not provide a reason for DioGuardi’s departure, which comes on the heels of comedian Ellen Degeneres’ exit from the judging table. Simon Cowell, known as the show’s harshest critic, also abandoned his judging post this year to take up the reins of his new show, “The X Factor.”

“Kara is one of the world’s best songwriters,” Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “She has been passionate and committed to Idol over the last two seasons. I will miss having her on the show, but I look forward to working with her in music for many years to come.”‘
